Aerial invertebrate functional groups respond to landscape composition with only detritivores and predators responding to agri-environment scheme management

چکیده

Landscape-scale agricultural intensification is a major driver of biodiversity loss. Highly mobile species, such as aerial invertebrates may be disproportionately affected by land cover at large spatial scales due to their ability disperse. Assessing the efficacy environmentally friendly farming, Agri-Environment Schemes (AES), therefore, requires establishing influence beyond focal farms or fields, contextualising impact management. This study measured response invertebrate functional groups AES management in improved and semi-improved upland grasslands accounting for autocorrelation multi-scale effects within buffers varying from 100 m 5 km 88 paired fields. Total abundance diversity, including detritivores, herbivores, nectivores, predators parasitoids all responded different types indicative highly complex idiosyncratic group responses landscape. After landscape composition, total was unaffected but diversity (5%) higher than conventionally managed Detritivore (mostly Mycetophilidae fungus gnat) were conventional only on grasslands, while predator (adult Muscidae house fly, Scathophagidae dung fly Dolichopodidae long-legged fly) lower Aerial herbivores (Anthomyiidae root-maggot flies Cecidomyiidae gall midges gnats), nectivores (Syrphidae hoverflies Apoidea bees) (Ichneumonidae wasps) not Synthesis Applications: this suggests that composition drives multiple scales. Nevertheless, some (detritivores predators) local suggest contribute maintenance enhancement ecosystem service delivery (nutrient cycling pest biocontrol). Explicitly necessary when assessing taxa.

a comparison of teachers and supervisors, with respect to teacher efficacy and reflection

supervisors play an undeniable role in training teachers, before starting their professional experience by preparing them, at the initial years of their teaching by checking their work within the proper framework, and later on during their teaching by assessing their progress. but surprisingly, exploring their attributes, professional demands, and qualifications has remained a neglected theme i...

Mammalian nest predators respond to greenway width, landscape context and habitat structure

Birds of conservation concern breed in suburban greenways, yet abundant populations of mammals that depredate bird nests might reduce nest success. We evaluated how three factors influenced the abundance of mammalian nest predators in thirty-four 300-m long forested greenway segments in Raleigh and Cary, North Carolina, USA: (1) the width of the forested corridor containing the greenway, (2) th...

Field-level bird abundances are enhanced by landscape-scale agri-environment scheme uptake.

Despite two decades of agri-environment schemes (AESs) aimed at mitigating farmland biodiversity losses, the evidence that such programmes actually benefit biodiversity remains limited. Using field-level surveys, we assess the effectiveness of AESs in enhancing bird abundances in an upland area of England, where schemes have been operating for over 20 years. In such a region, the effects of AES...
